TOP 10 REASONS TOURISM IS A FORCE FOR GOOD GLOBALLY AND IN GUYANA

Georgetown, Guyana (May 17, 2019) – Tourism has long been regarded as one of the fastest growing sectors in the world significantly contributing towards sustainable development in areas such as job and wealth creation, economic growth, environmental protection, and poverty alleviation. Guyana’s Green State Development Strategy highlights tourism as a priority value-adding sector requiring increased investment. GUYANA BECOMES FIRST COUNTRY TO JOIN THE TRANSFORMATIONAL TRAVEL COUNCIL

Georgetown, Guyana (May 3, 2019) – The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) has announced that it has become the first country to join the transformational travel movement through a pioneering partnership with the Transformational Travel Council (TTC). The TTC unveiled its first 80 Ally Partners on April 17th. Partners include tour operators, media organisations and travel suppliers from around the world. Guyana is the first country to join the partnership illustrating the destination’s ongoing commitment to transformational travel and overarching belief that travel should be a relentless force for good.

GUYANA TO PIONEER CLIMATE CHANGE EDUCATION IN SOUTH AMERICA

(May 2, 2019) – Brussels,Belgium/Georgetown,Guyana: SUNx, in partnership with the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), has launched a Plan For Our Kids Programme to support STRONG Climate Champions for Guyana. Starting with one future leader, this programme will provide participants with lifetime learning on Climate Friendly Travel and Climate Resilience from primary school through University and into the participant’s professional careers.

GTA CONCLUDES CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING WITH IMMIGRATION OFFICERS

Georgetown, Guyana (10 April, 2019): The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), in collaboration with the Caribbean Tourism Organization, recently concluded the first of a five-month ‘Delivering Quality Service’ training with the Immigration Department of Guyana. The training focused on educating and empowering officers who interface with travellers and visitors in the areas of customer service, the visitor welcome, and hospitality techniques. The overall aims is to improve first impressions and the overall quality of visitor experience at all of Guyana’s international ports of call.

Georgetown, Guyana (5 April 2019) – Guyana: The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), in collaboration with the Caribbean Tourism Organization, recently concluded a ‘Delivering Quality Service’ staff training for the Ramada Princess Hotel located at Providence, East Bank Demerara. The training focused on educating the members of the establishment in customer service excellence, visitor welcome, and hospitality best practices to ensure all guests receive a high quality experience that meets international standards.

GUYANA WINS BEST DESTINATION VIDEO AT THE GOLDEN CITY GATE AWARDS AT ITB

Destination Guyana takes 1st place award for its nature destination video in a worldwide video competition that has been running for 19 years. At the International Tourism Exchange in Berlin, the world’s largest travel trade fair, Guyana’s winning entry was presented this Thursday (March 7) at the 19th Multimedia Award “The Golden City Gate” with the first star in the “Destinations” award category.

GUYANA WINS #1 IN ‘BEST OF ECOTOURISM’ CATEGORY AT THE SUSTAINABLE DESTINATIONS TOP 100 AWARDS

(6 MARCH 2019) – BERLIN: Guyana has been named the #1 “Best of Ecotourism” destination in the world. The award was presented to Guyana at the ITB global travel trade fair in Berlin, Germany. The second annual “Best of Top 100” Awards is a selection of the finest top 100 destinations selected by a panel of experts who reviewed sustainability success stories submitted by destinations worldwide. The newly created “Best of Ecotourism” category was added in 2019 and put Guyana up against very well-known and experienced ecotourism destinations like Sierra Gorda in Mexico, Tmatboey in Cambodia and the Galapagos Islands

GUYANA TOURISM AUTHORITY HOSTS GERMAN FAM 2019

Guyana Tourism Authority hosts German FAM 2019 February 18, 2019 (Georgetown, Guyana) – The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) has hosted its first group familiarisation trip (FAM trip) for 2019. In 2018, the GTA contracted FastForward Marketing as its marketing representation firm and partner in Germany and the other German speaking markets (Austria and Switzerland).

GUYANA TOURISM AUTHORITY SIGNS A HISTORIC MOU WITH UGDGN TO ATTRACT DIASPORA

(Georgetown, Guyana) – The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the United Guyanese Diaspora Global Network Corp (UGDGN) have just entered into a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to engage the Guyanese Diaspora in various forms of tourism. The collaboration agreement is the first of its kind between the GTA and a diaspora organisation, and promises attractive travel packages for the diaspora community and information regarding travel opportunities.

Tourism Product Assessment and Training conducted at Moraikobai Village, Region 5 – GTA prioritises facilitating more community-owned and led tourism in Guyana with the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) conducted a tourism product assessment at Moraikobai Village in Region 5 from February 11-15, 2019. The team, which comprised the Guyana Tourism Authority, Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, and Rainforest Tours. The purpose of this assessment was to support the Village Council and the Tourism Committee in developing an action-oriented roadmap for tourism development in Moraikobai. GUYANA RECORDS HIGHEST VISITOR ARRIVAL NUMBERS TO DATE

Guyana Records Highest Visitor Arrival Numbers to Date – Increased by nearly 16% from 2017 to 2018 January 25, 2018 – Guyana continues to grow as a destination of choice for travellers. As of December 31st, 2018, Guyana recorded a total number of visitor arrivals of 286,732 passengers; a 15.93% increase from the 247,330 visitors Guyana welcomed in 2017.

GUYANA ATTRACTS HIGH MEDIA ATTENTION IN EARLY 2019

Destination Guyana has been accorded yet another feature in National Geographic Traveller’s ‘The Cool List 2019’. The article focuses on “Everything from futuristic cityscapes and modernist architecture to pristine rainforest and rehabilitated wildlife”, in this most recent accolade, Guyana is featured at #10 on the all-encompassing global list. “New flights are opening up this undiscovered gem…Guyana’s main prize is Kaieteur Falls. The largest single-drop waterfall in the world is a beauty, cutting its way through the jungle as the Potaro River falls 741ft before continuing towards the Atlantic,” the article stated.

GTA TRAINS 150 TOURISM INDUSTRY PERSONNEL IN CUSTOMER SERVICE

Georgetown, Guyana (October 26, 2018) – Today, the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) wraps up its two-day Customer Service Training with the staff of the Ramada Georgetown Princess Hotel. The training sought to train the establishment’s 150 personnel in customer service techniques aimed at further enhancing their interactions with their clients and increasing the quality of the overall visitor’s experience.

GERMAN AND NORTH AMERICAN MARKET REPRESENTATION FIRMS SELECTED THROUGH PUBLIC TENDER PROCESS

Georgetown, Guyana (September 11, 2018) – In response to the Stabroek News article entitled “Firms hired through restrictive tendering for tourism drive in North America, Germany” published on September 6th, 2018, the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) would like to correct the inaccurate contracted amounts mentioned in the article. In August 2018, the GTA appointed market representation firms in North America, one of Guyana’s core markets and in Germany, one of Guyana’s investment markets. This appointment followed a competitive tendering process that began in 2017 where companies from the respective markets were invited to bid for the contract of representing Guyana.

TOURISM- GOOD NEWS FOR GUYANA

Georgetown, Guyana (September 6, 2018) – The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), in collaboration with the Department of Tourism (DoT), held a roundtable discussion today with Senior Editors of the local media. The discussion was geared towards crafting a new relationship between the media and the Ministry of Business/DoT and GTA and the tourism sector in order to create a positive narrative about Guyana and strengthen the destination’s brand image.

MEETING INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS IN GUYANA

Georgetown, Guyana (August 20, 2018) – The Guyana Tourism Authority announced today that it has committed to the international Adventure Travel Guide Standard. The adventure travel industry has grown rapidly over the last few decades, expanding from an estimated $89 billion in 2010 to $263 billion in 2013, and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 45.99% during the period 2016-2020. Guyana is highly attractive to the growing number of adventure travellers seeking personal growth, new destinations, immersive culture, and personal growth.

GUYANA TOURISM AUTHORITY RETAINS REPRESENTATION IN THE NORTH AMERICAN MARKET

AUGUST 1, 2018 – NEW YORK: Guyana Tourism Authority (the official Tourism Board of “Destination Guyana”) has formed an official partnership with Emerging Destinations and Green Team Global to represent Guyana in the United States (US) and Canadian travel markets. Georgetown, Guyana (August 1st, 2018) – The Guyana Tourism Authority announced today the appointment of market representation firms to promote Destination Guyana in the North American and German travel markets and increase visitation. Emerging Destinations in partnership with Green Team Global will be representing Guyana in The United States and Canada, and Fastforward Marketing, a subsidiary of Travel marketing Romberg will be representing Guyana in Germany.
